About ICRT
The International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) has a global reputation as the leading post-graduate training and research centre developing and promoting the concept of Responsible Tourism.  Based in the UK, the ICRT has been instrumental in progressing the movement towards a more socially, economically and environmentally sustainable and responsible tourism industry through international research projects, policy development and industry partnerships.

Founded by Prof. Harold Goodwin in 2000, the ICRT traces its beginnings back to the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) at the University of Kent, where in 1994, funding was received from ODA/DFID to undertake research on Tourism, Conservation and Sustainable Development.  Over the years, the research evolved into a Master of Science program growing from the University of Kent to the University of Greenwich to its current location at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Over the years, the ICRT has developed ties to international responsible tourism movements, leading to the establishment of independent sister ICRT organizations in South Africa, West Africa, India, Germany, Belize and (now) Canada.

About ICRT Canada
Launched on World Responsible Tourism Day 2008 (November 12), the ICRT Canada builds on the reputation and accomplishments of the ICRT Global Network, developing and promoting the concept of responsible tourism in Canada.  The ICRT Canada will work with communities, the industry, policy-makers, the media and other organizations to achieve this mission and build the capacity of responsible tourism principles in Canada; focusing on rural, aboriginal and northern communities.  Particular areas of concentration include cultural heritage tourism development, local economic development and community-based tourism.

Mission
